Denver Legal Marketing is pleased to announce that it will celebrate inclusiveness by providing a $500 sponsorship to help train future lawyers from diverse backgrounds at the Law School… Yes We Can Futures Virtual Event 2021. The virtual fundraiser is on Saturday, May 21, 2021, between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM MST. Tickets can be booked online at LSYWC’s Eventbrite page here.

This is the 5th annual Building Futures event which will be held virtually this year. This year, the keynote speaker will be Caroline Tsai, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for Western Union.

Tsai is a well-known champion of diversity, and she formerly served as co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Network of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. The fireside chat will be moderated by LSYWC founder, the Honorable Christine M. Arguello.

Judge Arguello was the first Latina judge in the country to sit on the Colorado Federal Court, and she also serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Legal Inclusiveness. She has received awards from a number of respected organizations, including the Colorado Women’s Bar Association and the Latinas First Foundation.

What is Law School Yes We Can About?

There is a real need for pipeline programs like LSYWC. Alarmingly, according to a Columbia Law School report, admissions to any law school for certain populations within minority groups has dropped dramatically.

LSYWC is based on inclusiveness and is the first law school pipeline program of its kind for first-year college students from diverse backgrounds in Colorado. It matches fellows with mentors, who help guide the fellows through college.

The ultimate goal is to help students receive admission to the law school of their choosing. LSYWC and mentors demystify the application process and help fellows gain access to the legal profession. This is also achieved by skills-building workshops and other opportunities to enable fellows to cultivate skills and relationships that will be valuable in their future careers as lawyers. You can find out more information on the program itself here.

According to LSYWC, they have a 98% graduation rate compared to 60% of college students nationwide, and 78% of their Fellows are the first in their families to ever go to college. That’s a massive achievement, considering that some of the Fellows are also first-generation high school graduates! You can read more about ‘The Why’ and see the stats for yourself here.

How You Can Help and Support LSYWC

There are over 250 mentor volunteers who have given over 22,000 hours to the program and many supporters who have contributed financially over the years. If you would like to get involved and support diversity and inclusiveness in the legal profession, you can donate financially or offer your time and expertise as a mentor.

Law School…Yes We Can offer hope and a brighter future to aspiring lawyers from minority groups, and Denver Legal Marketing is proud to be able to help them on their way.

See you (virtually) at the event!
