PRO BONO & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Denver Legal Marketing’s (DLM) owner and founder, Meranda Vieyra, presented to the kindergarteners at Aspen Academy about Pre-Columbian history in October 2023. Her presentation upholds her DEI commitment to the community and was also a unique celebration of her own heritage.
Aspen Academy
is a Pre-K through 8th-grade private school located in Greenwood Village, Colorado, well-known for its
dedication to DEI.
During her presentation, Meranda simplified the information about these complex communities and thoroughly developed cultures. She taught the kindergarteners about the various contributions of these Pre-Columbian people that they can see in their everyday lives. With a colorful yet simple and easy to understand PowerPoint presentation, Meranda exposed students to age-appropriate information about food, animals, and art in these cultures. The kindergarten students followed along with the culturally informative presentation while coloring areas of custom-made bookmarks that contained easily recognizable examples of Pre-Columbian culture. As a part of the presentation, students learned about the Pre-Columbian historical ties of tomatoes, hot chocolate, and quinoa. They were also encouraged to touch items significant in Pre-Columbian culture, including turquoise faux feathers, raw beans, raw squash, and raw cocoa.
During her time with them, Meranda also taught the students about the following:
Aztecs: Geography and Nahuatl-inspired words for common foods such as tomatoes and avocados
Maya: Geography and the concept of 0 in modern math
Inca: Geography and Quechua-inspired words such as condor, puma, and llama
Pre-Columbian Presentation Further Cements DLM’s Firm Commitment to DEI
As a female, minority-owned local business, DLM is committed to supporting DEI efforts across the educational and legal spectrums. In addition to speaking in schools in support of minority communities, DLM also exercises its commitment to DEI by proudly supporting the following organizations:
Center for Legal Inclusiveness
Colorado Hispanic Bar Association
Colorado W.O.L.F. (Women Owned Law Firms)
Colorado Women’s Bar Association
Legal Entrepreneurs for Justice
